U.S. Marines' Hymn

Marines do not have a song. Marines have a hymn.

The Marines' Hymn is symbolic of the very best our nation has to offer in defense of the land we love. For Marines it is all about Principles, Values and Virtues.

The Marines' Hymn is a tribute to warriors and honoring the sacrifice, courage and proud battle history of the Corps. Its verses tell of the honor and glory Marines have earned in battles on every conceivable foreign shore and leaves no doubt as to the singular mission and passion of the Marine Corps. In fact, British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill so highly regarded the virtue and fighting prowess of the U.S. Marines that he often recited from memory all three verses for other heads of state.

When The Marines' Hymn is played, United States Marines stand at attention. It is not unusual to see Marines become emotional at the playing of the Hymn. They silently show their pride in their fellow Marines, their Corps, their Country, their heritage, and their hymn. Of all Marine traditions, the Marine Hymn is one of the most revered by members of the Corps.

The Marines' Hymn From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli, We fight our country's battles In the air, on land, and sea. First to fight for right and freedom, And to keep our honor clean, We are proud to claim the title of United States Marine. Our flag's unfurl'd to every breeze From dawn to setting sun; We have fought in every clime and place Where we could take a gun. In the snow of far-off northern lands And in sunny tropic scenes, You will find us always on the job The United States Marines. Here's health to you and to our Corps Which we are proud to serve; In many a strife we've fought for life And never lost our nerve. If the Army and the Navy Ever look on Heaven's scenes, They will find the streets are guarded By United States Marines.
